Description
I think a lot of people here haven't watch Eternal Love because it wasn't previously available in Viki but this is one of the best Chinese drama ever. The love story, the plot, the characters, the costumes, the set, the direction, the acting, everything about this drama were excellent. It's been several years since this drama came out but it's still couldn't be beaten in terms of quality — it remains superior compare to other cdramas of its kind like Legend of Fuyao, Ashes of Love, etc that suffered from poor writing and pacing halfway through. I wish we will get more high quality dramas like Eternal Love and Nirvana in Fire but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon *Sigh*.
Bai Qian is the lead female character in this drama and she's one of the best written female lead in dramas. I admired her character and she has become one of my favorite lead characters. I love that we could track her growth throughout the drama from a mischievous young girl in-training to a more mature, all powerful high status goddess. When she lost her memory and her power, she was painfully naive but she was self-aware, and so earnest and kind. She knew she couldn't possibly go against these powerful figures so she handled the fate she had been handed as best as she can. As a high goddess, she was beautiful, elegant, proud and powerful. I love that she was not above being petty and exacting revenge to the people that have wronged her. I'm so bored of dramas with Mary Su's characters who are always unrealistically forgiving to their enemies. I like the fact that we get to see a female lead with a backbone and pride who gets angry, fight for what's rightfully hers, take revenge when crossed, and not above asserting her high status and power when confronted by puny evil b*tches way below her station who dared to put her down. Ugh it's always good when female lead actually stand up for herself in dramas! (◠‿◠✿)
Ye Hua is equally great and deserving as the male lead. He was extremely powerful magical being and he was also the Crown Prince of the most powerful kingdom in the magical realm. But his character was not a jerk or a womanizer. He was absolutely disinterested in money, women or palace's court drama. He just minded his own business and focus on his royal duties. But when he fell in love with Bai Qian, he became absolutely devoted to her. He was a romantic, swoonworthy, protective and dominant as a lead. A fair warning that you might fan yourself at certain steamy scenes heheh. Swoonnnnn
The side characters and side love stories are lovable as well and decently fleshed out. Even the villains are oh-so-good-to-hate.
If you want romance set up with great writing, acting and production quality, you should definitely give Eternal Love a chance!
